Case Summary

On Jan. 9, 2021, the FBI received a tip that Zachariah Boulton was at the U.S. Capitol riot three days earlier, according to federal court records. That tipster included Boulton's TikTok account @greeneyedveteran. The FBI then obtained a search warrant to view videos posted by the account. In one selfie-style video, the man authorities later alleged is Boulton says: "the tree of liberty from time to time needs to be watered with the blood of patriots and tyrants. Don’t come at me, oh, you lowered yourself by going into that Capitol building. F*** that. We need to send them a message now that they will understand . . . we will not stand by and s***s gonna get real. If you're not ready for that, go hide.” Court records state the FBI also found several other videos and messages posted to TikTok that indicated Boulton's plans to be in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6, as well as videos from the city. In one video posted after the riot, Boulton allegedly says: "Let me address your question or your concern because I was actually in the Capitol building. . . they were spraying us with mace, and they were also throwing tear gas at us. If you had gotten a little closer, you would have seen that.” Boulton can also allegedly be seen entering the Capitol in the building's surveillance footage. According to sentencing memos filed in court, Boulton served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was discharged in 2019.
