Case Summary

Wilmar Alvarado talked with Fox 26 Houston after the U.S. Capitol attack and before boarding a flight back home to Texas. He confirmed he participated in what he called "protests" because he believes there was election fraud. In that same interview, Alvarado claimed he was pushed toward officers by the crowd, telling them, “I’m not part of this. I’m trying to get out.” According to the criminal complaint, Alvarado called the FBI and voluntarily confirmed that he was the individual pictured in FBI posters. He said he traveled to Washington alone and did not assault any officers. Alvarado also claimed he never went inside the Capitol building. But federal agents say a YouTube video by a user named "Status Coup" tells a different story. The video, titled "UNBELIEVABLE Footage | Trump Supporters Battle Cops Inside the Capitol," allegedly shows Alvarado alongside other rioters trying to "violently battle their way through a line of police officers" guarding an entrance to the Capitol, according to the complaint. Alvarado is a native of El Salvador and is the owner of a Salvadoran bakery-restaurant in Pasadena, Texas.
