Case Summary
A person who knows William Rogan Reid called the FBI a few weeks after Jan. 6, 2021, to tell about seeing a video on Reid's Instagram that showed the inside of the U.S. Capitol building and in which Reid's voice could be heard. That Instagram account led federal investigators to what they believe is Reid's Discord account. According to court documents, Reid posted on Discord on March 11, 2021, that "The 6th was our Boston Tea Party." Two days later, he wrote, "I rushed the Capitol," "Hi, Feds," and "I'LL F***IN DO IT AGAIN." A search warrant of AT&T records indicated Reid was in the vicinity of the Capitol, including its interior, on the day of the riot, according to prosecutors.
Case History
At a stipulated bench trial on 8/23/2022, Reid was found Guilty of all charges. He admitted to a stipulated set of facts. Sentenced on 12/7/2022 to 37 months of incarceration, 36 months of supervised release, $2,443 in restitution and $295 special assessment. Reid received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
