Case Summary
The Justice Department's case against Troy Sargent began after the government received tips from multiple members of the public who allegedly told the FBI that they recognized Sargent from photos and videos from the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. One witness allegedly told investigators that Sargent is known for participating in rallies in the Pittsfield, Mass., area, and that he posted on Facebook ahead of the Jan. 6 Trump rally: "I ain't missing this." Federal prosecutors say that Sargent is visible in footage from police body cameras on Jan. 6. At one point, according to court documents, Sargent "appears to throw a punch with his right hand at a police officer, inadvertently strikes another member of the crowd, and then retreats back into the crowd." At another point, "Sargent approaches the front of the crowd of rioters, confronts the line of police officers attempting to hold the crowd back, and physically engages with one of the officers with his right hand while holding what appears to be a cell phone in his left hand."
Case History
Sargent pleaded Guilty to all six charges. Sentenced on 12/12/2022 to 14 Months of Incarceration with credit for time served; 2 years of supervised release; Special assessment of $285; Restitution of $500. Sargent received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
