Case Summary
Court documents state that Troy Koen was seen on a variety of video footage - police surveillance footage, publicly available video, and body-worn cameras of DC police officers - repeatedly assaulting law enforcement officers. He began on the northwest side of the Capitol West Plaza, charging to the front of a group of rioters and helping to yank a barricade away that allowed access to police officers. The surge of rioters then followed the officers into the Lower West Terrace tunnel where, according to the court document, Koen used a flagpole with two flags, one Confederate and the other TRUMP 2020, to jab it into glass doors, breaking the glass. He allegedly continued to assault officers with the flagpole in an attempt to move the crowd further forward. He was arrested on Nov. 9, 2023.
Case History
Koen pleaded Guilty to one charge: Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers. Sentencing set for 2/26/2025. On 1/21/2025, the court grants the government’s motion to dismiss the case with prejudice.
