Case Summary

Traci Sunstrom was initially identified from an anonymous tip saying she had appeared on a Facebook livestream video on the day of the riot inside the U.S. Capitol building. After obtaining a search warrant from Google to look at the account associated with her email address, federal agents found that a mobile device associated with that account had displayed a location radius within the Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, around 2 p.m. According to court documents, the FBI compared the picture from Sunstrom's driver's license with surveillance footage at and around the Capitol and alleged that she appears in several images. Sunstrom is allegedly seen inside the building, dressed in a green jacket and pants with a large-scale Stars and Stripes pattern on them. She was arrested on May 19, 2021.

Case History

Sunstrum pleaded Guilty to Parading, Demonstrating or Picketing in a Capitol Building. Sentenced 2/24/2022 to 3 years of probation; 30 days home detention/location monitoring; $10 special assessment; $500 in restitution. Sunstrum received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
