Case Summary
Thomas Munn was allegedly at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, with four other members of his family who are also charged in relation to the riot, and a child who is not charged. According to news reports, Thomas Munn is the father of three of the Munn family members charged (Joshua, Kristi and Kayli) and partner to Dawn Munn. On Dec. 28, 2020, Thomas Munn reportedly posted an image on Facebook that indicated that then-President Donald Trump had "requested your attendance" in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6. According to court documents, Thomas Munn captioned the image: “Our President has only asked two things from us, so far... #1 Vote #2 January 6, 2021.” On Jan. 5, 2021, he allegedly wrote on Facebook, “We made it to our hotel just outside DC … 1,600 miles in 24 hrs!” and included a photo of a trailer passed on the highway with a sign that said, "D.C. Bound. We are Q." On the afternoon of Jan. 6, 2021, he posted a photo of himself with the four other family members charged and the child who has not been identified, court documents indicate. He reportedly wrote: "Made it back to the hotel about an hour ago . . . Have lots of pics and video to follow. ... The only damage to the capital building was several windows and sets of doors. Nothing inside the capital was damaged. I can tell you, patriots NEVER made it to the chamber. There was no violence in the capital building, the crowd was NOT out of control . . . they were ANGRY!!!” Security footage from inside the Capitol that day indicate that Thomas Munn entered the building with his family, according to court documents. Sentencing memos filed in court by the defendant and prosecution state that Munn served in the U.S. Army and the Wisconsin Army National Guard.
