Case Summary
Steven Billingsley may never have made into the U.S. Capitol building, but his words on restricted grounds were violent, prosecutors say. “We do want to hurt [House Speaker Nancy] Pelosi. I do. Yeah, I would hang her from that big -- you see that tree over there? We’d put [up] a rope and hang her. We hang her and [Senate Majority Leader Chuck] Schumer over there, they’ll all go, ‘Oh s***,' ” Billingsley said, according to court documents. Billingsley livestreamed his time on the Capitol grounds via Facebook, a tipster told the FBI. The account where the videos were posted, prosecutors say, was closed in March. Billingsley narrated the first-person videos and turned the camera to show his face at least once, according to prosecutors, who matched the image to the photo of Billingsley’s driver’s license. Those videos, court documents say, show Billingsley undoing a metal barricade and breaching it. The FBI also says Billingsley shouted at police officers saying, “We’re going through. We can do it the nice way or the hard way. … You guys turned on us.” He also repeatedly said, “This is war,” prosecutors say. Court documents include photos from outside the Capitol that the tipster told the FBI resemble Billingsley.
