Case Summary
According to the affidavit, four tipsters contacted the FBI to report that John Hubert Getsinger Jr. and Stacie Ann Hargis-Getsinger traveled to Washington, D.C., for the protest on Jan. 6, 2021. One tipster described a video of them entering the U.S. Capitol saying, “This is War! We’re storming the Capitol!” A screen capture of an alleged Facebook post by Stacie Hargis-Getsinger says they went to the Capitol after President Trump’s speech and saw the large group moving up the steps toward the door. “I only saw 2 or 3 people who looked even remotely like antifa members. The Capital bldg. is the peoples house. WE the citizens own it,” she allegedly wrote. “Once it was stormed we also went inside.” After comparing screenshots of social media conversations, CCTV footage from the Capitol and South Carolina DMV photos, federal officials charged the couple.
Case History
Hargis-Getsinger pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced 7/12/2022 to 60 days incarceration; 3 years Probation; Restitution of $500; Special Assessment of $10. Hargis-Getsinger received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
