Case Summary

Simone Gold is a physician based in Beverly Hills, Calif., who is affiliated with the group America's Frontline Doctors. That group has advocated for several positions that have been widely criticized by public health experts and scientists — arguing against the use of masks to combat the coronavirus, for instance, and for the use of the drug hydroxychloroquine. Based on images from social media, as well as surveillance footage, federal prosecutors allege that Gold joined the group of people who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and that she carried a bullhorn. Days after the rioting, Gold spoke to The Washington Post and said that she traveled to Washington for a "Rally for Health Freedom." She told the Post that she did enter the Capitol building but insisted that everyone she saw inside was "peaceful." “I can certainly speak to the place that I was, and it most emphatically was not a riot,” she told the Post. However, Gold said, “I do regret being there."

Case History

Gold pleaded Guilty to one charge: Entering and Remaining in a Restricted Building or Grounds. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 6/16/2022 to 60 days incarceration; 12 months of supervised release; $9,500 fine; $500 restitution; $25 special assessment. Gold received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
