Case Summary

On the day of the riot at the U.S. Capitol, Shawn Price sent multiple Facebook messages claiming, "I led the storm!" according to court documents. Prosecutors say they have evidence that Price is a member of the far-right extremist group the Proud Boys, and is a leader in a New Jersey chapter of the group. “[I] got really f***** up but me and 4 of my chapter brothers pushed that line and started it ourselves had to be done,” he allegedly said on Jan. 6, 2021. Price took videos from outside the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, prosecutors say, in which he urged rioters to push forward against police lines protecting the Capitol. In other videos from the scene described by prosecutors, Price "is helping to push a crowd forward into the line of law enforcement officers." Later that day, Price messaged with his mother on Facebook, according to court records. When she asked whether he had entered the Capitol building, he replied, "[Y]es i did after getting tear gassed pepper sprayed and shot with rubber bullets." Messages between Price and his mother cited in the documents show Price asking her how to deal with pepper spray used by law enforcement, and his mother responding that he should use baby shampoo. FBI agents arrested Price in New Jersey on June 8, 2021.
