Case Summary
Shane Jenkins began tweeting about election fraud and referring to then-President-elect Joe Biden as a "cheater" shortly after the 2020 presidential election, according to Jenkins' Twitter account, which is referenced in court documents. On Dec. 21, 2020, he wrote "Booked my flight and room for the January 6th rally in DC!!! I’m stoked!!!" and later echoed Trump's promise of a "wild" rally. On Jan. 18, 2021, a person reached out to the FBI saying they had been doing Internet research and had identified Jenkins, who has a tattoo below his right eye, in videos from the Jan. 6 riot. According to the tipster, he is seen in one video smashing a window into the U.S. Capitol with a crowbar. Law enforcement later found a video in which they identified Jenkins smashing a window with a hatchet. It is unclear if the hatchet and crowbar are from two separate incidents. Jenkins is also seen in security footage and police body camera videos throwing several items at police officers, including "a pole, a desk drawer, some type of pipe/metal rod, and a flagpole," court documents indicate.
Case History
Jenkins pleaded Not Guilty to all charges. On 3/29/2023 he was found Guilty in a Jury trial on nine charges. Not Guilty of Theft of Government Property. Sentenced on 10/6/2023 to 84 months incarceration; 36 months of supervised release; $5,176 in restitution; $720 special assessment. Jenkins received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
