Case Summary

Sean David Watson showed a coworker videos on his cellphone that he claimed to have taken inside the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, court documents indicate. That coworker then called the FBI to turn him in. In an initial interview with the FBI, Watson said he had participated in the Jan. 6, 2021, rally but denied being inside the Capitol building. In a second interview with agents, the FBI seized Watson's cellphone, and he admitted that he had entered the building. On that seized phone, law enforcement found photos from inside and outside the building and texts sent shortly after the riot, one of which read "I was one of the people that helped storm the capitol building and smash out the windows . We made history today. Proudest day of my life!” According to local news reports, Watson’s home is covered with messages, including “COVID1984," “Democrats stole the election" and "Veterans for Trump." According to a U.S. Army spokesperson, Watson was a Medical Laboratory Specialist in the Army from 2005 to 2010. He had no deployments.
