Case Summary
On Jan. 9, 2021, the U.S. Capitol Police found a key card from a local hotel on the West Plaza of the Capitol building as they were cleaning up from the riots on Jan. 6, according to court documents. Records showed it was from a room reserved by “Sandy Hodges” from North Carolina. Through search warrants and location data, the FBI determined Hodges was within the Capitol building and they interviewed her on Apr. 6, 2023. She admitted entering the Capitol, saying she was “sucked into the building” by the crowd, documents state. Reviews of open-source videos and photos by the FBI show Hodges close to a line of police barricades, yelling “Freedom!” towards the officers. Once inside the building, she allegedly finds her way to a U.S. Senator’s office and sits on a couch where she unpacks the contents of her backpack. She was arrested on Feb. 1, 2024. According to sentencing memos filed in court, Hodges served in the U.S. Air Force.
