Case Summary

Ryan Swoope of Perry, Ohio, sprayed something orange at a Capitol police officer, prosecutors say. Court documents show Swoope wearing glasses, a gray hoodie with a white logo, and a red “Make America Great Again” beanie. Swoope first entered the Capitol through the Senate Wing doors, investigators say, alongside his roommates Jordan Siemers and Saul Llamas, and remained there for about seven minutes. Court document say Swoope chanted “whose house, our house” with other rioters inside the spouses' lounge. Later, prosecutors say, Swoope sprayed the orange substance at a police officer, causing that officer to cough and have watering eyes. Swoope’s relative said Swoope had been in Washington, D.C., on Jan. 6, 2021, investigators say, and a manager at Swoope’s job positively identified him in photos. Swoope was arrested in November of 2022.
