Case Summary

A tipster alerted federal authorities to Facebook posts from Ronnie B. Presley, of Bethpage, Tenn. In one of them, allegedly posted on Jan. 6, 2021, a video with audio shows him speaking on a cellphone. “I stand on the top step of the Capitol,” it allegedly begins. “Yeah, I can hear you. Do you see me? I am on the top step of the f----ing Capitol.” Another post allegedly shows Presley with a crowd around the scaffolding just outside the Capitol building. He can allegedly be heard yelling, “Stands is where we need to go. Do it!” The FBI says the post was taking place as people were starting to climb the scaffolding. Another post, a short time later, allegedly captured Presley saying, “I’m the guy who got you into this building. Don’t take my word for it. Watch the video.” Presley then allegedly posted an image to make his point: he is standing with a group of people in front of a Capitol doorway with a broken window. In the image, Presley looks like he’s grabbing the top portion of a U.S. Capitol Police officer’s riot shield.
