Case Summary

Court documents provide Facebook messages that allegedly lay out Robert Schornak’s preparations for the pro-Trump rally on Jan. 6, 2021. He and a friend allegedly packed body armor, a knife, helmets and gear that included what they called “antifa spray.” The FBI obtained messages allegedly written by Schornak to his friend Daniel Herendeen, who has also been charged with breaking into the U.S. Capitol. “Cant stay home, I would not be able to live w myself,” Schornak allegedly wrote. “That’s how I feel,” Herendeen allegedly responded back. “I’m supposed to go with [redacted], but it sounds like he might back out. I heard it might be hard to get to DC. I go regardless.” Schornak is a manager at a debt services company in Macomb County, Mich., and investigators who searched his social media accounts allegedly found a selfie of Schornak and Herendeen inside the Capitol.
