Case Summary

Prosecutors allege that Robert Gieswein "appears to be affiliated with the radical militia group known as the Three Percenters" and also runs a paramilitary training group called the Woodland Wild Dogs. Court records also indicate he believes the "Rothschilds" have taken over the U.S. government, which is a common anti-Semitic trope, and said that political leaders need to be "imprisoned" for "destroying our country." On the day of the insurrection, Gieswein allegedly used a baseball bat and some sort of unidentified "irritant spray" to assault police officers protecting the Capitol. He encouraged rioters to break a window on the outside of the Capitol building, the government alleges, and then climbed through the broken window to join the storming of the Capitol.

Case History

Gieswein pleaded Guilty to two charges: Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers Using a Dangerous Weapon (2 counts). The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 6/23/2023 to 48 months incarceration; 3 years supervised release; $2,000 restitution; Special Assessment of $200. Gieswein received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
