Case Summary
“I did storm the Capitol and made it all the way to Statuary Hall,” Robert Chapman wrote to a romantic interest on the dating app Bumble, according to court documents. “We are not a match,” the interest replied. “I suppose not,” Chapman noted. That person reported Chapman to the FBI. FBI agents later identified Chapman, who also goes by the name Robert Erick, on multiple images depicted inside Statuary Hall in the U.S. Capitol building. In a screenshot captured by the FBI, Chapman as Robert Erick wrote: “I’M F***IN INSIDE THE CRAPITOL!!!” Chapman was arrested earlier in New York in 2017, which helped federal officials to identify him, working alongside state police.
Case History
Chapman pleaded Guilty to the charge. Sentenced on 5/18/2022 to 18 months of probation with 3 months location monitoring; 60 hours community service; Special Assessment $10; Restitution $500; Fine: $742. Chapman received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
