Case Summary
Philip Young allegedly pushed a barricade into police officers protecting the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6, 2021, insurrection. The criminal complaint says he was identified from videos and photos, one of which showed him letting the air out of the tire of a U.S. government vehicle while wearing a distinctive American flag bandana over his head. Court documents indicate that the jacket he was wearing in that photo bore the unique logo associated with the Boilermakers Union Local 28, located in Eastampton, N.J. When FBI agents later interviewed witnesses who identified Young from the pictures, one witness confirmed that he is a retired member of that union. Footage from officers' body cameras also show Young involved in the violent struggle with police officers and the barricades at the Capitol.
Case History
Young pleaded Guilty to all charges. Sentenced 1/31/2023 to 8 months of incarceration; 3 years of supervised release; $295 special assessment; $2,000 restitution. Young received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
