Case Summary

On the day of the Capitol attack, members of the mob grabbed a Metropolitan Police officer who was guarding a Capitol building entrance and dragged him down the stairs of the building. An FBI affidavit says the mob forced the officer to the ground and beat him with various objects. Federal investigators believe Peter Stager is one of the individuals who assaulted the officer. A video allegedly shows Stager striking the officer repeatedly with a flagpole while the officer lays face-down on the steps of the Capitol building. In another video, Stager is allegedly heard saying, "Everybody in there is a treasonous traitor. Death is the only remedy for what's in the building," which investigators believe is a reference to the Capitol building and the lawmakers inside.

Case History

Stager pleaded Guilty to one charge: Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers Using a Dangerous Weapon and Aiding and Abetting. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 7/24/2023 to 52 months incarceration; 3 years of supervised release; Special Assessment: $100; Restitution: $2,000. Stager received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
