Case Summary

Nolan Kidd and Savannah McDonald allegedly traveled together to Washington, D.C., the day before the assault on the U.S. Capitol. According to court documents, they can be seen in many of the most familiar photos of Jan. 6, 2021 -- near the man who became known as the “QAnon Shaman.” On Jan. 11, 2021, the FBI received a tip that Kidd had been inside of the Capitol building, which included a screenshot of an account believed to be his, showing an album of pictures of the day captioned, “Just made it home, I have tons of photos and videos to share with you guys.” Federal prosecutors say that agents interviewed Kidd at his home days later, and he said that “the doors to the U.S. Capitol were wide open.” A photo returned from a search of Kidd’s phone shows pictures of him and McDonald smiling for the camera, and Kidd showing a “thumbs up.” Kidd can also reportedly be seen in a video posted by the Young Patriot Society and credited to himself, alongside McDonald saying, “[W]e got in from the back.” Agents also reviewed video footage of Kidd and McDonald allegedly heading to the Upper West Terrace of the Capitol with a group of rioters that pushed through a line of law enforcement and headed into the building through a fire door. A search warrant for a Snapchat account McDonald claimed was hers returned images of a group chat in which a user believed to be Kidd reportedly says, “Me and Savannah are F***ING STORMTROOPERS.”

Case History

Kidd pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 5/9/2022 to 45 days of Incarceration; $10 special assessment and restitution in the amount of $500. Kidd received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
