Case Summary
According to federal investigators, Matthew Valentin and his brother Andrew spent hours on the grounds of the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, as the riot unfolded. He was seen in open-source video footage wearing a grey hoodie, camouflage pants and a grey hat; both brothers wore a black vest. Around 2:14 pm that afternoon, the Valentin brothers were seen climbing to the top of a metal tower erected outside the building for the upcoming inauguration. Fifteen minutes later, they were seen pushing a bike rack barricade into a line of police officers. Matthew Valentin was later seen grabbing an officer's baton and spraying a chemical irritant into police lines. He was arrested on Feb. 12, 2024, in Wilkes-Barre, Pa.
