Case Summary
Matthew Krol, federal prosecutors allege, repeatedly attacked law enforcement guarding the outside of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. An FBI affidavit filed in the case against Krol states that he "pushed forward through the crowd, threw a water bottle at police officers, pulled other civilians out of his way, and attacked Metro Police Department Officer D.P., grabbing him and his police baton." Krol then allegedly used that baton to attack other police officers. Court documents describe Krol as "the self-professed executive officer of the Genesee County Volunteer Militia." Krol was arrested on Feb. 23, in Linden, Mich. After his arrest, the website for the Genesee County Volunteer Militia stated that Krol had left the group in 2017.
Case History
Krol pleaded Guilty to one charge: Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers Using a Dangerous Weapon. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 12/15/2023 to 51 months in prison (with credit for time served); 36 months of supervised release; $2,000 in restitution; Special Assessment: $100. Krol received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
