Case Summary
Matthew Buckler was initially flagged to the FBI on Jan. 13, 2021, when a tipster sent agents a screenshot of Buckler's alleged Snapchat account. According to court records, the screenshot captured a video of Buckler inside the U.S. Capitol. The tipster also provided a screenshot that showed a Bitmoji labeled “Matt,” placed on top of a satellite image of the Capitol building and grounds. In May, Buckler’s phone was seized and searched after a federal warrant was issued. According to court records, the phone had at least seven videos taken inside the Capitol. On one of the videos, Buckler is allegedly seen shouting repeatedly: “Stop the Steal” and on another video, which appears to be taken in the Crypt at the Capitol, he can reportedly be heard saying: “We in this b****. We in this b****.”
