Case Summary
Matthew Greene is a member of a local New York state chapter of the far-right extremist group known as the Proud Boys, according to federal prosecutors. Greene "kept at his residence a Proud Boys pin, and he advertised on at least one of his social media profiles that he was a first-degree Proud Boy," according to an indictment against Greene and two other alleged members of the Proud Boys, Dominic Pezzola and William Pepe. Prosecutors allege that Greene conspired with Pezzola and Pepe in the runup to the attack on the Capitol. On the day of the riot, Greene, Pezzola and Pepe were allegedly near the front of a group of rioters and pushed past barriers erected to keep out the crowds. Later, prosecutors say Greene "celebrated" the events of Jan. 6, 2021 and sent a message to an "associate," in which Greene said, "I'm good, we took the capital [sic]." Greene was arrested on April 21, 2021.
Case History
Greene pleaded Guilty to two charges: Conspiracy and Obstruction of an Official Proceeding. On 1/22/2025, the court grants the government’s motion to dismiss the case with prejudice.
