Body-worn camera footage of two police officers on the Upper West Terrace of the Capitol allegedly show Matthew Carver shouting at officers, then appearing to to push one and grab his baton, struggling with it for several seconds, according to court documents. In January, 2023, FBI agents interviewed Carver at his home and showed him photos from outside the Capitol. He confirmed it was him and, when asked to explain why he had his hands on an officer’s baton, Carver stated that officers were being aggressive towards a woman in the crowd. He also allegedly stated that he believed the 2020 presidential election was clearly stolen. He was arrested on Jan. 30, 2024.
Case History
Carver pleaded Guilty to one charge: Civil Disorder. Sentencing set for 3/5/2025. On 1/21/2025, the court grants the government’s motion to dismiss the case with prejudice.
