Case Summary
Photos and videos that Mark Rebegila took of himself on Jan. 6, 2021, place him inside the U.S. Capitol during the Jan. 6 riot. In an interview with the FBI, Rebegila said he arrived at the Capitol after crowds that had knocked down barriers were already entering the building. He told agents that he asked a police officer if he could go inside and claimed the officer shrugged his shoulders. The FBI is investigating allegations from a tipster who told the bureau that Rebegila sat in a lawmaker's chair and stole a bottle of liquor from an office in the Capitol building.
Case History
Rebegila pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced 4/20/2022 to 24 months probation including 30 days home detention; 60 hours community service; $2,000 fine; $500 restitution; $10 special assessment. Rebegila received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
