Case Summary
Mark Aungst traveled to Washington, D.C., from Lewisburg, Pa., for the Jan. 6, 2021, pro-Trump rally with a busload of 55 other people, one witness told law enforcement. The bus was supposed to return to Pennsylvania shortly after the rally, but Aungst and another passenger — Tammy Bronsburg, who is also facing charges — delayed its return by an hour, according to court documents. On the trip back, others on the bus allegedly overheard Aungst bragging about being inside the Capitol after the rally. The FBI also identified Aungst in security footage from inside the Capitol building. Aungst died by suicide after entering a plea of guilty.
Case History
Aungst pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. He died by suicide prior to his sentencing hearing and the case was dismissed.
