Case Summary
Body-worn camera and social media footage show Luke Hoffman yanking a piece of bike-rack fencing away from police officers on Jan. 6, 2021, according to court documents. Hoffman is later seen grabbing and struggling with another officer over his baton. According to the FBI, Hoffman also sprayed multiple law enforcement members with a chemical irritant. Once Hoffman reached the tunnel of the Capitol, he supported other rioters by having them stand on his shoulders while attacking officers with various objects, including a flagpole. Also on Jan. 6, Hoffman’s wife Kari posted this on Parler, alongside a picture of her husband: “I am so proud of my husband! He stood up for America today!! Were you part of today too?” The post allowed law enforcement to confirm Hoffman’s identity.
Case History
Hoffman pleaded Guilty to two charges of Assault, count 3 and a lesser charge of count 4: Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 9/13/2024 to 20 months incarceration; 36 months supervised release; $2,000 restitution; $200 special assessment. Hoffman received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
