Case Summary
In December 2020, Lucas Denney allegedly used social media and other means to recruit members to join his self-proclaimed militia group, the Patriot Boys of North Texas, as well as encourage them to travel to Washington, D.C. Court records indicate that Denney engaged in physical violence at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Denney can allegedly be seen wearing a mask with a Joker grin printed on it, as well as a hat with the Three Percenters symbol on it. According to the FBI, he grabbed and shoved a police officer, then attempted to grab a canister of crowd-control spray from a different officer. Denney was also allegedly seen later picking up a long metal pole from the ground and swinging it at an officer. Approximately 10 minutes later, he was seen grabbing a large tube and launching it toward a line of law enforcement officers, court records indicate. As the afternoon progressed, Denney was also allegedly seen carrying a baton and swinging his arm and fist at an officer. Denney has been detained, pending further proceedings. According to Denney's sentencing statement, he is a veteran of the U.S. Army and served four years in a Military Police unit.
