Case Summary
Leonard Q. Gruppo Jr. is a physician assistant at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis, N.M., who was arrested June 1, 2021, according to court documents. Three tipsters identified him in photos walking through the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, alongside a man charged in April, 2021, Kenneth Kelly. An attorney claiming to represent Gruppo also contacted the FBI on May 17, 2021, to identify him. Two of Gruppo’s co-workers told the FBI that the usually clean-shaven Gruppo has been growing out his hair and beard recently, according to the criminal complaint. According to sentencing memos filed in court, Gruppo served in the U.S. Army.
