Case Summary

According to the FBI, Larry Giberson was seen entering a tunnel at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, as he shouted at the crowd behind him. He was allegedly in the front line with other rioters during the first coordinated "heave-ho" pushing effort to get past the police guarding the entrance of the Capitol building. According to federal court records, videos show Giberson ushering rioters into the tunnel before participating in a second round of coordinated pushing against the police. When people tried to drag the police out of the tunnel, Giberson unsuccessfully started a chant to "drag them out" at least three times before "cheering as pepper spray and weapons [were] used against the police," according to the FBI statement. He became associated among online sleuths like the Sedition Hunters with the hashtag "#DragThemOut," court records state. Alleged photos of Giberson at the riot appeared to match a student from Southern Regional High School in Stafford Township, N.J., who had plans to attend Princeton University. When he was subsequently interviewed in Princeton, N.J., Giberson confirmed his identity in the FBI-gathered footage, court records indicate.

Case History

Giberson pleaded Guilty to one charge: Civil Disorder. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 11/1/2023 to 2 months of incarceration; 6 months of Supervised Release to be served as home detention; a $100 Special Assessment; Restitution totaling $2,000. Giberson received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
