Case Summary

Kasey Von Owen Hopkins answered questions from the FBI when they visited his home in Kansas City, Kan., court documents show. He described going to Washington, D.C., for the Stop the Steal rally, prosecutors say, and then walking to the U.S. Capitol building. He also showed investigators a picture of his clothes from Jan. 6, 2021, which included a red baseball cap with the words “Trump Train,” a gray hoodie, a black vest, and blue jeans. Investigators then tracked a person wearing those clothes through Capitol surveillance footage, court documents show. Prosecutors allege that Hopkins entered first through a fire door and later went into a senator’s office, walked through the crypt, and used his phone to record. The FBI says they served search warrants to AT&T and Apple, which produced phone records showing Hopkins’ phone in an area that includes the inside of the Capitol, and photos from D.C. on Jan. 6, 2021. Hopkins was arrested in August of 2022.

Case History

Hopkins pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 4/10/2023 to 4 months of incarceration; Probation for 2 years; $10 special assessment; restitution of $500. Hopkins received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
