Case Summary

The FBI had sought information on a man wearing a hooded sweatshirt with a logo from the University of Michigan who they suspected of assaulting police during the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the U.S. Capitol. An online group of civilians investigating the Capitol riot dubbed that man "fingerman," because he was seen on video footage waving his middle finger at police. Federal agents subsequently identified "fingerman" as Justin Jersey. An indictment filed in federal court accuses Jersey of assaulting a police officer with the Metropolitan Police Department and then using a baton to attack other police officers guarding the Capitol. Jersey was arrested on Dec. 2, 2021.

Case History

Jersey pleaded Guilty to one charge: Inflicting Bodily Injury on Certain Officers. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced 2/10/2023 to 51 Months of Imprisonment (with credit for time served); Supervised Release of 36 months with conditions; Special Assessment of $100; Restitution of $32,165.65. Jersey received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
