Case Summary

Justin Adams, of West Jordan, Utah, threw a plastic bottle at a police officer and removed a bike rack barricade on Jan. 6, 2021, according to court documents. Prosecutors allege that Adams made contact with officers, including charging at them, on the upper west plaza of the Capitol, continuing to yell and “gesture aggressively” after he was pushed back. The FBI says a confidential human source identified Adams, who wore a leather jacket, camouflage pants, and a baseball cap, and also identified his business, JD Guns and Gear. According to court documents, photos from the JD Guns and Gear website appear similar to photos of Adams from the Capitol, including a baseball cap Adams wore. Investigators later found Adams’ Parler account, prosecutors say, which included photos and text about, “driving to DC to smack a couple of politicians around,” and saying, “We safely made it out of Washington DC before the lockdown.” The FBI says someone who has known Adams for five years positively identified him in stills from body-worn camera footage. Adams was arrested in October of 2022.

Case History

Adams pleaded Guilty to one charge: Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 12/8/2023 to 17 months incarceration; 1 year Supervised Release; $100 Special Assessment; Restitution of $2,000. Adams received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
