- Current status
- The federal court dismissed the pardoned cases on January 27, 2026 after accepted clemency. Reporting in August 2026 identified Herrera Velutini as the banker associated with Bancrédito while discussing the completed criminal-case sequence; that report is a bounded public-status reference, not a new legal disposition.
Original Case
In August 2025, Herrera Velutini pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor federal campaign-finance offense in a plea resolution of the Puerto Rico prosecution. The earlier 2022 conspiracy, federal-program-bribery, and honest-services allegations were not convictions on those charges. Clemency preceded sentencing; the profile therefore does not describe a sentence that was never imposed.
Clemency
January 15, 2026: full and unconditional pardon of the original specified federal case. The January 20 amended warrant granted a full and unconditional pardon in the separate misdemeanor case. Neither warrant is a judicial acquittal or factual exoneration.
Trump Connection
Herrera Velutini’s daughter contributed to a Trump-aligned super PAC while her father’s criminal case was pending. After the pardon, the Campaign Legal Center alleged that the banker was the true source of money routed through her and asked the Federal Election Commission to investigate. The contribution and complaint make the political-finance link part of the clemency story, but neither the FEC nor a court has made a finding here that the source was unlawful or that clemency was exchanged for the money.
