Case Summary
On Feb. 16, 2021, an FBI agent contacted Joshua Hall after being alerted that his phone number had allegedly been in the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6. When Hall returned the phone call, according to court documents, he admitted that he had been inside but denied being a part of violence or disorderly conduct. Over a year later, the FBI interviewed Hall at his home address. Court documents state that Hall said he went to Washington, D.C., with two others to support Trump and “let their grievances be known.” Through a review of open source videos and images, the FBI was able to identify Hall standing next to Jon Schaffer, the front man with the heavy metal group "Iced Earth," who was also charged and pleaded guilty. Hall allegedly sent an email about the moment he was near the musician: "It was an honor to be side by side. Good man. Lifelong fan. Situation was so hectic so I didn’t put 2 and 2 together. Horror Show is one of my favorite albums of all time. Whatever spectrum you fall into, he is METAL." Hall was arrested May 26, 2023.
Case History
Hall pleaded Guilty to the charge. Sentenced on 11/17/2023 to 12 months of Probation; $25 Special Assessment; $200 Fine; Restitution of $500; 60 hours of community service. Hall received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
