Case Summary
Joshua James is the owner of American Pro Hydro Services, a cleaning company in Arab, Ala., and is a veteran of the U.S. Army. James served as an infantryman from January 2006 to June 2008, an Army spokesperson told NPR, and he deployed to Iraq from March 2007 to June 2007. On Jan. 5 and Jan. 6, 2021, federal prosecutors allege, James joined with a group of Oath Keepers, the far-right anti-government militia, in providing security for speakers at the Stop the Steal rally in Washington, D.C., and also later stormed the Capitol. The New York Times reported that James was among a group of Oath Keepers who guarded former Trump adviser Roger Stone, and that story is cited in court documents. James allegedly communicated with multiple members of the Oath Keepers in the runup to the Jan. 6 insurrection and was seen in photos and videos from that day in and around the Capitol wearing "military-style attire and gear, including apparel emblazoned with a patch related to the Oath Keepers Militia."
Case History
James pleaded Guilty to two charges: Seditious Conspiracy and Obstruction of an Official Proceeding. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 12/20/2024 to concurrent term of probation as to Counts 1 and 3; special assessment of $200; restitution of $2,000. James received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
