Case Summary
Joseph Robert Fisher can allegedly be seen in U.S. Capitol surveillance footage entering the building during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot, walking around, and eventually pushing a chair into a Capitol Police Officer and engaging in a physical altercation with that officer. In the footage and in YouTube videos, Fisher is seen wearing a black beanie with the logos of several Boston sports teams on it, according to federal court records. That hat is what tipped off the FBI to go looking in Boston, where they confirmed that Fisher is a former police officer with the Boston Police Department and where they had a witness confirm his identity in the footage from the Capitol, court records state. The FBI also confirmed Fisher's presence in the building with location records from AT&T.
Case History
Fisher pleaded Guilty to all charges. Sentenced on 5/24/2024 to 20 months incarceration; 24 months supervised release; $2,000 restitution; $305 special assessment. Fisher received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
