Case Summary
Joseph Daniel Hutchinson III was identified to the FBI by a witness who was familiar with two other people charged in the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol — Olivia and Jonathan Pollock. Around 2 p.m. on the day of the attack, Hutchinson, along with a group of others with whom he is charged, including the Pollocks, was allegedly located on the west side of the Capitol behind a police barricade. Hutchinson can be seen on police body camera footage grabbing the barricade and pulling it away, "providing rioters with unobstructed access to the line of police officers," according to court records. Later on, Hutchinson can reportedly be seen charging at officers and "directing punches" at their faces. Later still, Jonathan Pollock allegedly seized a police riot shield, and as Hutchinson supported him from behind, Pollock thrust the bottom edge at an officer's throat or face. Hutchinson can also reportedly be seen throwing an officer out of his way in the crowd of rioters. According to the witness who identified Hutchinson to the FBI, Hutchinson works at the Pollock family's gun shop in Lakeland, Fla.
Case History
Hutchinson pleaded Not Guilty to all charges. Failed to appear for hearings and declared a fugitive on 4/6/2023. Found and arrested on 1/6/2024 in Groveland, Fla. Jury Trial reset for 2/18/2025. On 1/23/2025, the court grants the government’s motion to dismiss the case with prejudice.
