Case Summary

Jordan Stotts told an FBI agent he works in greenhouses and nurseries in the summer but decided to travel in his van over the winter, according to a criminal complaint. Stotts said he drove his van alone to Washington, D.C., when he saw President Trump wanted supporters to rally there on Jan. 6, 2021. He parked his van overnight at a state park in Virginia and attended rallies on Jan. 5 and 6 before walking with the crowd to the U.S. Capitol building. He told the FBI he walked around the Capitol for about an hour, filming videos in the rotunda that he posted to Facebook, along with comments such as “For too long has Satan ran this country! They attack our religious freedom, freedom of speech, and our freedom to do as we please! They work for us and have no right telling us what we can and can’t do!” According to the criminal complaint, Stotts posted on Jan. 8 to Facebook, “They call us terrorists, we are patriots. Each one a George Washington! Most of them are Benedict Arnolds!” Later that same day, Stotts wrote on Facebook he was “a wanted man and will be going off the grid for a while!” He was arrested March 19 in Bemidji, Minn.

Case History

Stotts pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges were dismissed. Sentenced 11/9/2021 to 24 months of Probation; 60 days home detention; 60 hours community service; $10 Special Assessment; and Restitution in the amount of $500.
