Case Summary
Jonathan Walden has been indicted along with several members of the anti-government extremist militia group known as the Oath Keepers. According to that indictment, Walden goes by the moniker "EoinAL" and allegedly participated in a conspiracy with other members of the Oath Keepers to obstruct Congress' certification of President Biden's electoral victory by helping to plan the storming of the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021. Prior to the attack on the Capitol, according to the indictment, Walden "applied" to join the Oath Keepers' planned operation by sending an email in which he said, "I am interested in the [Quick Reaction Force] team in D.C. I am former Firefighter, EMT-B and have a K-9 trained for security patrol (82 lb. German Shepherd named ‘Warrior’). I have a Jump Bag with Trauma supplies and have ALL the necessary 2A gear that the situation may require." In other messages described in the indictment, the Oath Keepers discussed having the "Quick Reaction Force" near the Capitol and available with weapons. On the day of the attack on the Capitol, Walden was "equipped with goggles, scissors, a tactical vest with attachments, gloves, a backpack, fatigues, boots, and his dog," according to the indictment. At about 2:30 p.m., Walden allegedly rode in a golf cart toward the Capitol along with other Oath Keepers before they continued on foot. Walden and another Oath Keeper then "aggressively berated and taunted law enforcement officers in riot gear guarding the perimeter of the Capitol building," the indictment states. At 3:15 p.m., Walden forcibly entered the Capitol along with his dog and exited about 20 minutes later, prosecutors allege. Just after 4 p.m., a group of Oath Keepers including Walden allegedly gathered outside the Capitol and met the group's leader, Stewart Rhodes. Walden was arrested in Alabama on June 3, 2021.
