Case Summary

The FBI identified Jonathan J. Munafo as one of its 10 most-wanted Capitol riot suspects in March, according to court documents. The FBI claims video shows Munafo, dressed in a black, hooded jacket, as he punched a police officer twice and ripped a riot shield out of his hands in front of a tunnel leading into the building. The documents also accuse Munafo of striking a Capitol window with a flagpole in an effort to break through. Munafo's Twitter profile, identified in court documents as @therightstuff87, shows videos from various Donald Trump rallies and a protest against COVID-19 lockdowns. "President Trump is someone we want to back and show our support in any way possible,” Munafo told a TV station before a Trump rally in February, 2020, in Manchester, N.H., an interview the FBI cites in its statement of facts. Munafo reportedly appeared to be wearing the same jacket as during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot. Munafo’s Twitter profile also includes a link to an Oklahoma radio station’s write-up on his visit to Tulsa, where Munafo claimed to have camped for three days on a sidewalk in front of an arena to see Trump.

Case History

Munafo pleaded Guilty to two charges: Civil Disorder; and Assaulting, Resisting, or Impeding Certain Officers. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 9/22/2023 to 33 months incarceration with credit for time served; 36 months of Supervised Release; Special Assessment of $200; Restitution of $2,000. Munafo received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
