Case Summary
A few weeks after the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol, a tipster contacted the FBI to tell agents that a person on their American Airlines flight on Jan. 7 had claimed that he had participated in the riot at the Capitol that day and that he had entered Congressional offices. That tipster included the person's seat number. Using that information, FBI agents were able to trace that seat number to Jonathan Bonney, court records indicate. Law enforcement was then allegedly able to identify Bonney in security camera footage from inside the building on the day of the riot. According to sentencing memos filed in court, Bonney served in the U.S. Army.
Case History
Bonney pleaded Guilty to all charges. Sentenced on 7/12/2024 to 12 months of probation; Special assessment of $70; $500 restitution; 60 hours of community service. Bonney received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
