Case Summary
Court documents state that Jonathan Humphreys was inside the Capitol Rotunda on Jan. 6, 2021, “dressed distinctively from many of the others inside the U.S. Capitol building that day.” He wore a black overcoat, white dress shirt, blue-striped tie, and black pants. During an interview with the FBI, Humphreys admitted he had been inside. Prosecutors allege that CCTV footage shows him entering through a broken window on the ground floor. Once inside, he is seen holding a body-worn camera and, in one instance, pointing it directly at a security camera. At 2:30 pm, he is seen in the hallway outside the Speaker of the House’s office suite, directing a crowd of people to it. Soon after, another rioter kicks in the door to the office. At 2:43 pm, he lights a cigarette in the Rotunda, and eventually exits at 3:10 pm. He was arrested on 1/16/2024.
Case History
Humphreys pleaded Guilty to two charges: Disorderly Conduct in a Capitol Building or Grounds; Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. Sentencing set for 2/5/2025. On 1/21/2025, the court grants the government’s motion to dismiss the case with prejudice.
