Case Summary

At least three people called the FBI saying that someone they knew on Facebook had posted about the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol. This individual, who is not named in court documents, tagged Jon Thomas "JT" Mott in those Facebook posts, including one that read: "We did it. JT and I got separated for about 20 minutes. ... I'm now trying to get us the hell out of here. Good work patriots. Protecting pedophiles and denying people freedom don't fly here. The silent majority has spoken." A few days before the riot, Mott's wife, Hope Anderson-Mott, posted a link to a GoFundMe page on Facebook titled "Protesting corruption in DC on Jan 6th," according to court documents. In it, Mott's unnamed travel companion was soliciting funds to go to Washington, D.C., and he mentioned he was traveling with a "fellow patriot," court documents indicate. Law enforcement also allegedly identified Mott in police body camera footage from inside the Capitol, where Mott reportedly can be heard saying to an officer, "[I]f you don't touch me, I won't touch you." According to court documents, Mott is an employee at the Bean Barn Coffee Shop in Flippin, Ark.

Case History

Mott pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced on 4/26/2023 to 30 days incarceration; 36 months of probation; special assessment of $10; fine of $500; restitution of $500. Mott received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
