Case Summary

According to federal court documents, John Maron Nassif was identified by a tipster through photos and videos he posted on Facebook inside and outside the U.S. Capitol building during the Jan. 6, 2021, riot. One video allegedly shows people entering the Capitol building, with Nassif’s voice in the background indicating they are inside. The FBI was provided with copies of Nassif's Facebook posts. In one, days after the riot, he says in a conversation, "You know I was there right?" and later, in another thread advises others to hide their tracks, saying, "Download this and turn off auto updates for your apps on your phones. Encrypted comms should we need them," court documents say. In a photo, he is seen taking a selfie among a crowd of protesters, with part of the caption reading, “I found myself inside the building,” documents show. Nassif was also captured on media footage taken inside the Capitol building during the Jan. 6 riot, according to an affidavit. According to sentencing memos filed in federal court, Nassif served in the U.S. Army Reserves and the Florida National Guard.
