Case Summary

The tipster who told the FBI that John “Jack” Juran was inside the U.S. Capitol building on Jan. 6, 2021, was reportedly apologetic. “A person I know who is on Facebook was there. Admits to being on the scaffolding,” the tipster wrote, according to court documents. “Not sure if this is trespassing or not. Do not believe he was involved in violence but anyone there especially on the scaffolding seems to be breaking the law. If not my apologizes [sic].” Authorities got a search warrant, and Google provided location information associated with an email account and a mobile device allegedly belonging to Juran. It put Juran’s mobile device inside the Capitol (within 10 meters of accuracy) on Jan. 6, 2021. Officials said they compared Juran’s New York driver’s license photo with surveillance footage from the Capitol, and he was easy to pick out. He had a mustache and was wearing a white cowboy hat that read, “Trump 2020,” according to court documents. The underside of the hat’s brim had Stars and Stripes.

Case History

Juran pleaded Guilty to one charge: Parading, Demonstrating, or Picketing in a Capitol Building. The other charges are dismissed. Sentenced 2/23/2022 to 3 years of Probation; 60 days home detention/location monitoring; Special Assessment of $10; Fine of $500; Restitution of $500. Juran received a full pardon on January 20, 2025
