John Carl was arrested on Aug. 15, 2024, in Pinetops, NC. Pinetops town attorney, J. Brian Pridgen, said in an email to The Charlotte Observer that Carl had been employed by town police since June 5, 2023.

Carl pleaded Not Guilty to all charges. On 1/21/2025, the court grants the government’s motion to dismiss the case with prejudice
